Dirtopia 2011 was a bit different to the usual weekend of madness. This year it was at Delvera, just outside Stellenbosch. Saturday was Stunt day, so went though to enjoy & capture. It had rained quite heavily for a few days before & everything was a bit soft & needed a bit of work to get things rideable.
I shot some of the Duals & was enjoying watching Toby (AKA Mr. SALVO) flow down. Watching that man go over the rollers is a treat! Chris Nixon was also flying down the track, but Darryn Stow managed to sneak past them to take 1st.
By then the jumps were rideable, but took a lot of pedalling to get through the spongy dirt. The Quarter to wall at the end was seeing the most action. I got frustrated shooting long with lots of people walking in & out of shot making composition a little tricky & opted for the fisheye for a bit. I shot through the gap between the quarter & wall & after the 1st trick I realised timing would be difficult because the gap was too small to see them. I shoot too much with Moe & didn't miss one of him.
Thanks to Meurant & Arina for keeping Dirtopia going this long, it was a different, but good vibe. Hopefully it's back in Tarentaalkraal next year for another weekend of camping, bikes & craziness!
